My Story by Marja-Leena Montonen

 

Thank you for taking the time to read my story. My name is Marja-Leena Montonen, and I'm a Swedish artist who now calls Australia home. I have always been drawn to colour and pattern, but I am also intrigued by mystery, folklore, nature, and the decorative arts. All of these influences can be seen in my artwork.

I grew up with a traditional Scandinavian upbringing, but I always had an active imagination. So even though my art and passion for design was very important to me, it took some time before I realized that it could bring so much joy into other peoples’ lives too.

Over the years I have had the privilege to complete paintings and furnishings on commission and design for different companies around the world. In 2001 I established Marja Leena Design, where I began with my original paintings. However today our product portfolio includes all manner of home-ware and gifts – with more to come!

My products are hand-crafted and not mass-produced, so everyone can buy something that's unique. I use recycled and organic materials whenever possible to minimize my environmental impact.

It is my hope that the things I make bring you as much pleasure in your life and home as they do for me when I am creating them.
